How our medical waste recycling service works
At Environmental Waste Controls, our healthcare waste management service extends across the broader UK healthcare landscape. We can collect and manage your non-clinical operational waste, and manage all clinical streams under one contract for efficiency and clarity. We also provide regular audit-ready compliance documentation upon completion.
Here’s who we work with and what we can collect:
- NHS trusts – Acute hospitals, mental health trusts, community trusts, ambulance trusts. We can collect from multi-site trust estates with full clinical and non-clinical waste profiles.
- Private healthcare – Private hospitals, independent clinics, and specialist healthcare operators have waste profiles similar to the NHS, with private procurement processes.
- Care homes & residential care – Care homes, nursing homes, residential care. We can collect clinical (sharps, pharmaceutical), confidential (resident records), food waste, and general operational waste.
- Dental & GP practices – Dental surgeries, GP practices, community clinics. We can collect sharps, amalgam, X-ray waste, and general practice clinical streams alongside operational waste.
3 reasons to choose EWC for your clinical waste management
We understand that healthcare procurement decision-makers want more than a price. They’re seeking a service they can rely on, a team that knows their estate, and a supplier whose sustainability supports their own reporting. We deliver on all three.
- Reliable, own fleet service – Your highest-volume waste – the daily non-clinical flow – is collected by our own fleet and team, so scheduling stays consistent and dependable.
- A team that knows your estate – We provide all healthcare sites with a named account manager and a team that learns how your estate runs, from a single practice to a multi-site Trust.
- Sustainable NHS clinical waste strategy – We’re committed to carbon neutrality by 2035 – a sustainability target set ahead of most UK businesses. Combined with the high diversion rate at our MRF and ISO 14001 environmental management, our operations support the supplier sustainability data that healthcare ESG reporting increasingly requires.
A reliable clinical waste collection service
Behind every collection is a team that knows materials inside out. At EWC, we understand which streams have value, how they should be handled and where they should go to get the best outcome. At our Material Recycling Facility (MRF), we primarily process cardboard and plastics, baling them to the standard reprocessors require. However, our expertise extends across a full range of materials, like hazardous waste, pharmaceutical waste, and more. So, whatever you need, you can rest assured that we’ll deal with your waste correctly, as it’s in capable hands.
From a free waste audit to live service in four steps
We like to do things efficiently and correctly, and we offer completely transparent pricing. Here’s how a healthcare waste management contract goes from enquiry to fully operational:
- Free site survey – We’ll visit your site and discuss your current waste flow and requirements. We’ll then identify what equipment and collection frequency works best for you.
- Tailored proposal – You’ll receive a clear proposal, complete with equipment, collections, reporting and costs. There’ll be no hidden charges or vague pricing either.
- Equipment install – If new equipment is needed, we can deliver, install and train your team. Live service usually starts within 2-4 weeks.
- Ongoing support – Your dedicated account manager will handle everything from this point onwards. Reporting goes live and mobile engineers can respond within 48 hours for any breakdowns.
